What Kind of Civilization Are We Building?

A founding reflection from Alessandro Dotti on why Ethical Infrastructure exists — and the question that opened the first public conversation around it.

I have spent more than three decades working across businesses, countries and cultures — watching technology, markets and societies change at extraordinary speed.

Over time, one question has become increasingly difficult for me to ignore:

As our technological capabilities accelerate, are our institutions, our values and our sense of responsibility evolving fast enough to guide them?

Artificial Intelligence makes this question more urgent. But it goes far beyond AI.

It touches education, healthcare, energy, water, digital infrastructure, democracy, sustainability and, ultimately, the world we leave to future generations.

This is why I decided to create Ethical Infrastructure — a project that is deeply personal to me.

Not because I believe I have all the answers.

Quite the opposite.

I believe humanity needs better questions — and places where people from different disciplines, cultures and perspectives can explore them together.

Technology can accelerate intelligence. Only humanity can give it purpose.

Ethical Infrastructure begins as an independent international platform for dialogue, research and action around ethics, technology and human-centered development.

It will grow progressively through ideas, conversations, contributions and collaborations.

Understand. Think. Connect. Act. Inspire.

Today, the conversation begins.

What is the one question about technology and humanity that you believe we are not asking seriously enough?

The Conversation Has Begun

This reflection opened the first public conversation around Ethical Infrastructure, bringing together perspectives from different countries, cultures and professional backgrounds.

The discussion continues. Different voices are now contributing their own questions, experiences and perspectives.
