Ethical Infrastructure publishes its founding vision
Our vision document is published, setting out why the institute exists and what it commits us to. It was substantially revised after our founding convening.
We have published our vision document. It sets out the premise the institute rests on — that technology is transforming humanity faster than our institutions are evolving — and what follows from taking that seriously.
The document was circulated in draft before our founding convening and revised in three substantive respects as a result: the section on method was rewritten, the treatment of future generations was reframed from a statement of concern into a design criterion, and an unsupported claim about institutional failure being deliberate was removed.
We record those changes because a vision document that never changes is either complete or unexamined, and ours is neither. Substantive revisions will continue to be recorded rather than quietly applied.
